Our Registrars
Julie McLellan – Senior Registrar for Argyll and Bute – Based in Campbeltown
Started in Registration – July 1997
Holds the Certificate of Proficiency in the Law and Practice of Registration (Scotland)
‘Being a registrar in Argyll and Bute is an absolute honour. To be part of someone’s special day, and part of their memories forever, is not something everyone gets to do and I feel very privileged. I have been a registrar since 1997 and have loved every minute. I have met some wonderful couples over the years, many of whom often pop in to say hello when they return to Campbeltown on their holidays. There have been so many changes over the years, from being able to have your ceremony conducted outside the office, to the same sex marriages and now being able to carry out registrations remotely helps families register without the hassle of attending the office.’
Linsay MacPhail – Assistant Registrar
Started in Registration – April 1999
‘I have been an Assistant Registrar for the last 19 years and love being part of couples special days. I have carried out lots of interesting ceremonies where dogs have been bridesmaids and Star Trek have been the couples theme. Every ceremony is unique and I feel honoured and privileged to be part of their special day and have made life long friends. I have had the opportunity to marry family and friends and love carrying out my duties as Assistant Registrar.’
Testimonials
‘Our Campbeltown Registrar Julie was absolutely fantastic throughout the whole process. Answering countless emails, printing out selected poems for Guide Parents and meeting with us to make sure the ceremony was planned exactly as we wanted.

‘The most perfect day in the perfect venue. From the first time contacting Linsay to book our wedding she couldn’t of been more helpful. Thank you for making us feel so relaxed on such an important day.’

By Air – Loganair
By Boat – Caledonian Macbrayne from Ardrossan to Campbeltown during May to September
Kintyre Express – A passenger ferry that travels between Campbeltown in Kintyre, Ballycastle on the Antrim Coast and Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay. Runs March to September.
By Road – 138 miles from Glasgow A83 via Loch Lomond
The Royal Burgh of Campbeltown is easily reached by air by sea or road. You can also take the stress out of driving and make the most of the views by using the five times daily Glasgow to Campbeltown bus service. The local harbour has pontoons for mooring and facilities nearby for yachtsmen.
The Kintyre peninsula is famous for its local golf courses, local whisky and, of course, its stunning beauty, inspiring Sir Paul McCartney’s ‘Mull of Kintyre’.
A drive down the coast quickly shows just what inspired him, with long sandy beaches, small intimate coves and the famous ‘mist rolling in from the sea’. These beautiful beaches make a stunning setting for outside ceremonies.

Campbeltown Marriage Rooms
Campbeltown’s registry office and ceremony rooms are located in the magnificent A-listed sandstone Burnet building, designed by Sir JJ Burnet. Situated in the town centre, the Burnet Building also houses a museum and has beautiful views over to the Isle of Arran.
There are two ceremony rooms available, both with many original features and displaying paintings by artists William McTaggart, Archibald MacKinnon and Gregory Robson.
The large ceremony suite accommodates up to 70 people and is beautifully decorated in rustic shades, with a grand fireplace and fabulous wooden beams, overlooking the Lady McCartney memorial garden.
The smaller ceremony room, in cream with dark wood panelling, enjoys views over the loch to Davaar Island and holds smaller, intimate parties of up to ten people.
Floral displays are provided in both rooms, with a music system in the larger suite to cater for personal choices of music.
There is ample parking close to the office but we would recommend guests use Hall Street, which is a short walk away. There is disabled access to the rear of the building and a portable loop system for those who are hard of hearing.
Gigha
A 20-minute ferry crossing from Tayinloan on the A83 brings you to the charming island of Gigha. Known as God’s Island, Gigha has been owned by its islanders since 2001. The island has a number of suitable venues – ask your Registrar who will be able to help you.
The Isle of Gigha is community-owned and is the most southerly and one of the most beautiful of the Hebridean Islands. Seven miles long by a mile and a half wide, Gigha is situated three miles west of the Kintyre peninsular, less than three hours drive from the City of Glasgow. Gigha is breathtaking – sandy beaches, clear green seas, a host of wildlife. There are also Achamore Gardens to explore.
There are numerous areas on the island available for ceremonies including their stunning beaches.
