Council issues rogue traders warning

Argyll and Bute Council’s Trading Standards Team is urging residents to be on their guard if they are approached at home by people offering tarmacking services.

The warning comes after the council received reports of rogue traders operating in and around Oban and Dalmally. The traders have been turning up unannounced at people's homes claiming to have been working and the area have some tarmac left over. They then carry out sub-standard work, often leaving jobs unfinished.

A council spokesperson said: “We are appealing to members of the public for information about these cold callers, such as vehicle registration numbers, descriptions, names, and phone numbers.

"We would advise people to be very cautious of entering into any contract with traders who turn up uninvited at their door, especially this type of work.

"If you are concerned about cold callers in your area or have received and have any information about these particular rogue traders, please email our trading standards team at tradingstandards@argyll-bute.gov.uk or call Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 164 6000.”
