Apply for licenses and permits

Here are the charges for our Civic Government Licences.

Please use this form if you wish to make any changes to your civic government licence.

Busking

There is no licence required to busk or perform street entertainment in Argyll and Bute, however it is advisable you contact Police Scotland to ensure that you are not/will not be causing an obstruction. Please note that is an offence to give any other person reasonable cause for annoyance and fail to cease playing on being required to do so by the Police. This may result in a summary conviction and a fine of up to £200.

Child Performance Licence

In order to comply with legislation all completed paperwork must be received at least 21 days before the date the licence is required.

Cinema licence

If you want to make use of premises for exhibition of films to members of the public, you will need a cinema licence. This includes any exhibition of moving pictures and would include screening of recorded films, performances or others.

Extended Hours Licence

The grant of an extended hours licence to licensed premises will enable them to extend the core hours of the premises in connection with –

Fireworks Display late at Night

If you are planning a private firework display which will take place between the hours of 11pm and 7am you will need to get consent. You still require to apply if the firework display is being held on the night of Chinese New Year, 5th November, Diwali or the 31st December but be aware that amended time restrictions apply on these days.

Gaming Machine Permits

To make gaming machines available on your premises you need to apply to the local authority for one of the licences below.

Hypnotism Licence

Exhibitions, demonstration or performance of hypnotism which take place in public require to be authorised by the Local Authority.

Performing animals registration

If you exhibit, use or train performing animals, in England, Wales or Scotland, you must be registered with your local authority.

Premises Licence (Gambling)

To offer gaming (i.e. betting, bingo, casinos, adult gaming centre, family entertainment centre etc) on premises you need to apply for a Premises Licence from the local authority.

Public Procession Licence

Any moving event held in a public place anywhere in Scotland can be considered a parade or a procession. This can include races, fun runs and sponsored walks; processions; gala day parades and street parties; demonstrations and protests; displays and promotions. Anyone who organises a public parade, procession, or event in which a body of people moves will need to submit a notice of proposal to the council.
