About the artist
Sir Robin Philipson RA RSA FRSE RSW (born Lancashire, 1916 1992) studied and taught at Edinburgh College of Art. He is known for his expressive use of paint, often using heavy impasto and bold colour. He is particularly renowned for his cockfight paintings, a series which began in the 1950s and helped to establish his career as a painter.
