About the artist
Joan Eardley ARSA RSA (born Sussex, 1921-1963) studied at Glasgow School of Art and Hospitalfield, Arbroath. She is one of Scotland’s most popular twentieth century artists. She is known for her powerful and expressive paintings which transformed her everyday surroundings, including the dramatic Scottish coastline surrounding her home in Catterline and Glasgow’s street children.
