Commercial waste collection

Update - Friday 19th June 2020

Commercial Waste Bin Collections – Returning To Normal

The Council is taking its first step to going back to normal bin and recycling collections.

Your normal schedule (prior to changes made due to COVID-19) will restart from:

Week beginning 22 June – Dunoon and Cowal, Mid Argyll, Tarbert, Oban and Lorn, Coll, Colonsay, Tiree, Lismore and Helensburgh and Lomond

Week beginning 29 June – Kintyre (South of Kennacraig), Islay/Jura, Bute and Mulll/Iona

Glass collections (where applicable) will return to normal for businesses.

Food waste (where applicable) is suspended until further notice.

My blue bin is full of general waste – what do I do with it?

If you have general waste in your blue bin, put your blue bin out with your general waste bin on your next scheduled collection day.   Make sure your recycling bin is clean before using it for paper etc. as recycling materials cannot be accepted if they are in any way contaminated.

These will be taken together on the first cycle only.

Potential Covid-19 infection at your premises - Waste disposal guidelines

Please securely store any potential contaminated waste (such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths) within disposable rubbish bags. These should be:

  • placed into another bag (double bagged)
  • tied securely
  • kept separate from other waste
  • put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external waste bin

Other waste can be disposed of as normal.

Businesses who have been closed over the COVID-19 period, please remember to email to confirm when you are reopening.  REMEMBER TO PUT THE WORD REOPEN and your company name and reference number (if available) in the subject heading and provide your contact details and the date you will be opening in your email.  Failure to notify us may result in an automatic reinstatement of commercial waste services once lock-down is fully lifted and an invoice being issued for that period of time onwards.

Businesses who have been open throughout the COVID-19 period, we aim to send your invoice and waste transfer note for the period April 2020 – March 2021 sometime in July.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and cooperation during these difficult times and assure you of our continued intention to offer the best service we can to you and your business.

What to do if your normal collection is ‘missed’

Our crews may simply be running behind on the route – don’t worry, we will catch up.

Our bin crews are already under huge pressure to continue to deliver this vital service for our communities.  Our call centre is receiving a lot of calls from vulnerable people who need our help at this time.  Please do not contact us about your bin collection unless you absolutely have to.

  • Please wait an additional day from your scheduled collection, our teams will be working longer than usual hours and aiming to catch up on any delayed collections the following day;
  • After that, check our service disruptions page for a revised collection date:
  • Only then, if there is no further information, please call the following telephone number: 01546 605514.
