Built in 1977 to replace the old St. Joseph’s School, it covers the stages Primary 1 to Primary 7. The school is a modern open plan building set in lovely grounds, comprising of 10 classrooms, I.C.T. Suite, Art Room, Akiva, library, quiet room, gym/dining hall, G.P. Room, staff room and various offices.
The curriculum presented is in line with a Curriculum for Excellence and has breadth, depth, progression, coherence, relevance, personalisation / choice, enjoyment and challenge. The staffing includes a Head teacher, Depute Head teacher and a Principal Teacher post.
Learning and Teaching is supported, two days a week by a teacher from the Area Network Support Team. A P.E. specialist, a music specialist and two instrumental instructors visit the school once a week.
The ancillary staff comprises of three clerical assistants, three special needs assistants, 2 pupil support assistants, 2 classroom assistants and a janitor. The associated secondary school is Our Lady and St. Patrick’s High School.
Partnership with parents is very much promoted and there is an active P.T.A. and Parent Council. The ethos of the school is excellent and pastoral care of the pupils is of a high quality.
The relationship between St. Joseph’s Parish and the school is very well established. St. Joseph’s school has an excellent profile in the local community. School activities such as Mass, services, concerts, barbecue and fund raising events are well supported by St. Joseph’s Community.
