The Chair introduced David Roberts to the group
and requested that David provide regular Broadband information.
David thanked the Chair and detailed a recent
Press release from
Councillor Currie reiterated his request for HIE
to provide help and advice in the Carradale area. David affirmed that this request would be
enacted upon and confirmed that this area was on HIE’s agenda. He also advised Councillor Currie of a recent
contract awarded in Carradale for accommodation for the workers carrying out
works for SSE...
The group agreed:
That the Carradale issue would be included on the
Agenda for the next KIWG meeting in December.

The Chair advised the group that this would be
David Rogers last attendance at a KIWG meeting as he was be undertaking work
within the Rothesay and Dunoon
area. He thanked David for the help, advice and input he had provided to KIWG meetings over the past few years.
David thanked the Chair and advised that David
Roberts would provide future representation from HIE.

David Rogers reported on funding for the Jura
Community shop.

David (HIE)
updated the group on HIE. He detailed that they were part of the
Economic Development team and adhered to Scottish Government strategy.
He informed the group on the 4 areas HIE focused on:-
1. Accelerate
growth aspirational businesses
2. Strengthen
communities in fragile areas
3. Sectors of the economy - Food &
Drink, Tourism and Energy.
4. Develop
areas in which people wish to live.
He detailed the work remits for
himself and David Rogers. David Rogers and his projects team are facilitators
for work. David as Head of Business Team is significantly responsible for local projects.
He
reported on the implementation of - Business Breakfasts with the first being
held in Campbeltown and highlighted some local concerns, i.e.:-
Inability to access Public Sector contracts
Lack of usable
broadband connectivity - IT speeds.
The Chair enquired as to the status of Kintyre House.
David Rogers replied that it was currently vacant and reported on plans to
sub-divide the building.
Councillor McAlpine enquired on HIE's view in regard to Wind
Farms. David replied that HIE did not hold a specific view, but
highlighted the success of Tidal RE on Islay and indicateed that perhaps this
was an area in which local businesses could learn from.
Councillor
Currie voiced his concerns for the Carradale area and detailed recent business
closures.
Decision:
David (HIE) would collate
the information from Councillor Currie in regards to the Carradale issues and would give the details to an HIE colleague
