UK Parliamentary Election - 4th July 2024

An election is to be held for a Member of Parliament (MP) to serve in the Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber Constituency on 4 July 2024.  The Notice of Election has been published by the Returning Officer. A copy of this can be found below.

Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber County Constituency

MPs are elected under the First Past the Post system, and in this election, voters must mark their ballot paper with an X in the box beside their chosen candidate.

Nominations 

A Nomination pack for the election is available from the link below.   Nomination papers must be delivered by hand or courier to the Returning Officer at the Election Office, Kilmory, Lochgilphead, Argyll, PA31 8RT.  Nominations will be invited between 10am and 4pm on any working date after the publication of the Notice of Election.  Nominations must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 4pm on Friday 7 June 2024.  

Registering to vote 

If you are already registered to vote, you do not need to re-register.  If you are not already registered to vote, you need to do so by 5pm on Tuesday 18 June 2024 to be able to vote in the 2024 UK Parliamentary General Election.  You can check if you are registered to vote by contacting the relevant Electoral  Registration Officer on 0800 9800470 (if you live in Argyll and Bute) or 0800 393783 (for those in the South Lochaber area) .

Voter ID

The Elections Act 2022 now requires voters in a UK Parliamentary General Election to show identification at the polling station.  For more information please see our Voter ID page.

Postal and Proxy voting 

Applications to cancel or alter existing postal or proxy votes, or to change from postal to proxy voting must reach the relevant Electoral Registration Officer no later than 5.00pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024. The relevant office is either:

Kilbrannan House, Bolgam Street, Campbeltown PA28 6HZ (ero-abc@dab-vjb.gov.uk)  for voters in Argyll and Bute; OR

Moray House, 16-18 Bank Street, INVERNESS IV1 1QY (ero@highland.gov.uk) for voters in South Lochaber

New applications to vote by post must reach the relevant Electoral Registration Officer at the above address no later than 5.00pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.     

New applications to vote by proxy must reach the relevant Electoral Registration Officer at the above address no later than 5.00pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.     

If as the result of a disability an elector becomes incapacitated after 5.00pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024; discovers after that deadline that they will be unable to go to the poll for occupational, employment or service reasons; or your photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged, an application to vote by proxy must reach the relevant Electoral Registration Officer at the above address no later than 5.00pm on the day of the poll.
