Three primary school head teachers from Argyll and Bute have received top marks after completing Education Scotland’s national ‘In Headship’ qualification.
Linda MacBeath from Rhu, Karen Wheatley from St Mun’s, and Pauline Walsh from Colgrain all took part in the In Headship postgraduate programme, which is designed to enable new head teachers to develop and continue to build the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding required in their role.
The following five aspiring head teachers also received the General Teaching Council for Scotland’s Standard for Headship, following successful completion of the ‘Into Headship’ programme:
- Shona Guthrie (Lochgilphead Joint Campus)
- Caroline Lamond (John Logie Baird on secondment to Early Years Team)
- Roseanne MacKay (Hermitage Academy on secondment to central team)
- Leonie McMurdo (Craignish)
- Kate Petrie ( Bunessan)
Into Headship is a 12 month-programme aimed at those working in education who would like to progress up the ranks, and focuses specifically on headship and the important strategic leadership role that head teachers play in schools.
Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “I would like to congratulate both groups on their wonderful achievements.
“Our school staff are role models, not just to our children and young people, but to each other and our wider community. Both the In Headship and Into Headship programmes are designed with this in mind, to provide staff with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding required to lead a dynamic school community
“Everyone who has undertaken these programmes has done exceptional and I hope that it will encourage more people to take part in the future.”
