The Lochgilphead Front Green transformation project has received a gold award at the Scottish Design Awards in the public realm and landscaping category.
Argyll and Bute Council invested £1.5 million to deliver a long-held community aspiration of creating a new public square to host events along with recreation facilities for residents and visitors.
The project led by design consultants Erz resulted in transforming the area to include a new play park, additional seating areas with walking and cycling facilities. Historically prone to flooding, the Front Green was raised with new drainage and landscaping to help ease the flow of water.
The Scottish Design Award is the second award for the Front Green after previously winning the Streets and Spaces category at the Scotland Loves Local Awards.
Speaking about the award, Councillor Alastair Redman, Policy Lead for Economic Growth and Communities:
“Congratulations to everyone involved with the Front Green transformation. Working with the community, we wanted to deliver a large community space that offered recreation opportunities and capacity to hold events.
I’m sure everyone agrees that it is a fantastic asset for the town and continues to attract residents and visitors to the area. Investing in the town has created a real buzz that has opened up future opportunities to help support the local economy.”
Open to all architects, engineers, graphic, interior and digital designers the Scottish Design Awards celebrate class-leading work, best practice, sustainability and innovation in all its forms.
