Help other families and the environment this summer by reusing and recycling outgrown school uniform.
Argyll and Bute Council is encouraging families to sort through any school uniform this summer to help provide affordable uniforms for children. Not only could you help families, you’re also doing your bit for the environment.
The council, working with schools and third sector partners launched the pre-loved scheme where families can donate and collect uniform from various collection locations across Argyll and Bute including community halls, schools and churches.
Once donated, volunteers sort uniforms into three categories:
- Good condition – reused by another pupil
- Reasonable condition – stored for future reuse
- Unsuitable for reuse – recycled into materials (stuffing for soft furnishings and building materials)
You can order pre-loved school uniform for your child by completing an online order form on the council website - https://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-grants-and-support/school-uniform-scheme.
You can also find a list of collection/ drop off points across Argyll and Bute on the webpage. Some schools have local arrangements; check their social media accounts for more information.

The UK Government funds the pre-loved school uniform scheme. Argyll and Bute Council works in partnership with Kintyre Recycling Limited, Oban Baptist Church, Helensburgh Parish Church, and Dunoon Community Hub.
