Can you make a better journey? Could you leave the car behind, where possible and make a shorter journey by cycling, walking or taking the bus? This summer, Argyll and Bute Council is encouraging more people to try to make a small change that will benefit your health, wallet, and the planet. Take part in the better journeys photo competition and win a £50 Love Local gift card.
Small change, big difference
With summer here, the longer days and lighter nights provide more opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. It’s an ideal time to explore the great outdoors and make memorable moments.
Did you know that approximately 60% of our short journeys, between one and two miles, are made by car? It’s not always possible to leave the car at home every time, but making small changes—even once a week—can greatly improve our health, finances, and the environment. Air pollution remains the UK’s biggest environmental health threat. By reducing car use where possible, you can help create a more climate-friendly Argyll and Bute.
Win prizes
Whether you’re commuting to work by bus, enjoying a family bike ride, or opting for a scenic walk instead of driving, take a photo and you could win a £50 Argyll and Bute gift card with two £25 gift cards for the runners-up. Email your image to photos@argyll-bute.gov.uk or upload them to the better journeys website https://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/better-journeys.
Include your name, contact details and a brief description of the photo including the location. The competition is open from 15 July and closes on 5 August 2024.
The winner will receive a £50 Argyll and Bute gift card, while two runners-up will each receive a £25 card.
