Kintyre and the Islands elects Anne Horn

Anne Horn has been elected as a councillor for Ward 2 Kintyre and the Islands, Argyll and Bute Council, following a by-election on 18 July 2024.

The number of first preference votes for each of the candidates were:

  • Ann Horn (SNP) - 728
  • Donald Kelly (Independent) - 322
  • Douglas MacDonald (Scottish Liberal Democrats) - 281
  • Alan McManus (Freedom Alliance) - 25
  • Elizabeth Redman (Scottish Conservative and Unionist) - 322

Election was by Single Transferrable Vote (STV) and the candidate was elected at stage 5.

The result was formally declared by the Returning Officer, Pippa Milne, at the count in Lochgilphead Joint Campus on Friday 19 July.  

The electorate was 5,406 and the number of ballot papers received was 1,695 giving a percentage turnout of 31.4%. There were 17 rejected ballot papers. The quota of votes for a candidate to be elected was 840.
