Argyll and Bute Council is due to start work on the next stage of the Rosneath Active Travel Route, which will see a path being created from Argyll Road to Clachan Burn, enabling people to walk, cycle, and wheel between the two locations.
The council was successful in securing £259,900 in funding for the construction of the path from the highly competitive Transport Scotland Active Travel Infrastructure Fund, and Argyll Community Housing Association has agreed that the route can cross over a large grass area under their ownership.
A path between Argyll Road to Builders Merchants has already been constructed as part of the project and the concept design consultation for another path between Builders Merchants and Castle Caravan Park Junction was undertaken earlier this year. Once completed, the three paths will join to create a seamless travel route.
The council’s Policy Lead for Roads and Infrastructure Services, Councillor John Armour, said: “The public has been campaigning for a safe walking and cycling path along this route for many years, so I’m delighted that things are moving forward and we are now in a position to start work.
“We want to make it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle in and around Rosneath, and this project will help them do that. Not only that, but it will also help to reduce emissions and create a climate friendly Argyll and Bute by encouraging people to use their car less, where possible.”
