Food Standards Scotland (FSS) has issued an urgent food alert advising food operators of the possible supply of mustard products that may be contaminated with peanut and/or peanut products which are not declared as an allergen on the label.
These mustard products are supplied by FSG Ingredients Ltd and carry the best before date up to and inclusive of the 30th of September 2026.
Peanut can be a very potent allergen for vulnerable people and exposure to peanut for such people can lead to immediate life threatening or fatal allergic reactions.
Argyll and Bute Council’s Environmental Health team can provide support to businesses with questions about the product by calling: 01546 605519 or emailing: envhealth@argyll-bute.gov.uk.
You can also find more information on the Food Standards Agency website.
Meantime, if you identify any of these products, they must not be sold and they must be removed from the market.
There are additional actions that should be taken.
Caterers and retailers
Please provide a point of sale notice within your business to highlight this issue. The notice should clearly state the products affected and that the product must not be consumed. Help with point of sale notices is available.
Manufacturers
If you have used the relevant products as ingredients within other products, those products should also be considered as impacted, unless you have taken action to accurately inform consumers i.e. re-labelling. In the absence of labelling that declares peanut directly or as a precautionary declaration then those products must be tracked, traced, and withdrawn from the market. Please keep accurate records kept of the withdrawal. Help and guidance with trade withdrawals
