What is Helensburgh CARS?

Helensburgh Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is a partnership funded grants programme focussing on the regeneration of historical buildings, as well as delivering traditional skills training and community engagement.

Our funders

Helensburgh CARS is funded by Historic Environment Scotland, Argyll and Bute Council and the owners of privately owned properties.

How much investment is going to Helensburgh's Town Centre?

Building refurbishment, totalling £1.68M, will complete by March 2026.

What will the project do?

Helensburgh CARS will complement significant regeneration investment made by the council within the town over the last 10 years.

The main elements of Helensburgh CARS are to:

  • Strengthen and enhance the character of the historic seafront

  • Help property owners upgrade key properties within the town centre

  • Complement previous regeneration activity and investment in the town

  • Grant fund shopfront improvements

  • Develop heritage education and training initiatives
