Support your Rural Growth Deal

Argyll and Bute Council has developed a £70 million rural growth deal, with the Scottish and UK Governments, and other partners, to bring jobs, housing and economic growth to the area.

We did it with strong public backing from our local communities.

The UK Government has advised that its £25 million contribution to Argyll and Bute's deal is on hold while it carries out its spending review.

Argyll and Bute is the only area in Scotland without a multi-million pound growth deal.

The council continues to work with both Governments on progressing the Deal.

The Deal is designed to achieve significant benefits for Argyll and Bute and its economic growth, including:

  • Deliver at least 300 additional jobs
  • Create 6,500 m2 of new business space
  • Deliver training opportunities to over 6,000 students and individuals
  • Support local businesses to thrive
  • Construct new housing and worker accommodation to help address the local housing emergency
  • Generate over 70,000 additional visitors to the area per annum

More information

Rural growth deal funding is given for specific projects. It cannot be used to run day-to-day council services. You can find out more about the Deal on our website.

Why is Argyll and Bute the only area without a deal?

Our Deal was scheduled to be signed in June but that had to be cancelled on account of the UK General Election.
