Food waste collection

Find out about using your food waste bin.

Most homes in the Helensburgh and Lomond area can have their food waste collected weekly. You can use our online form to request a food waste bin or a kitchen caddy. Supplies of liners can not be ordered online, simply tie an unused liner bag to the handle of your food waste bin and the waste crews will deliver some. Supplies of liners can also be collected from the Customer Service Point at Helensburgh Civic Centre.

Your food waste bin is emptied every week - check your collection day using our postcode look up here

You can use your 7 litre kitchen caddy to collect your food waste before putting it in your 23 litre food waste bin

You can put all your food waste into your food waste bin for collection, including:

  • meat and fish, including bones
  • fruit and vegetables
  • dairy products
  • bread, cakes and pastries
  • beans, pasta and rice
  • tea bags and coffee grounds
  • used kitchen towel and paper with food residue

Please try and ensure only full bags of kitchen waste are put in the food waste bin to minimise the number of bags required - we deliver supplies of bags every 6 months or if you need more liners simply tie a liner bag to the handle of you caddy and the waste crews will deliver some more.

Please use either the caddy liners provided by us when putting food into your food waste bin, or fully compostable carrier bags (some supermarkets such as the Co-op and Waitrose now provide these in their stores) can also be used.
