Minibuses

Argyll and Bute Council permits the use of its minibuses where available by community groups, clubs and local organisations. It is important to note however that the following conditions apply in every case:

  • the organisation has a section 19 permit (also known as a council mini bus permit - find out more about section 19 permits
  • the driver has successfully completed the minibus driving assessment in the last 3 years - find out more about minibus assessments
  • the driver has a current driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points on it
  • The driver’s licence must have the category D accreditation that allows the holder to drive a minibus.

Community Transport

British Red Cross Transport and Escort Service

The purpose of the service is to assist those in need, including those with disabilities, with access to centres of amenity and recreation. The British Red Cross does not operate any eligibility criteria and will welcome requests from any sections or groups within the community. The British Red Cross will also assist with movement to and from hospital if the Patient Transport Service cannot provide transport.

At present the service operates in Mid Argyll, including South Kintyre. It does not operate on a scheduled or fixed route. Transport requests are made via the point of contact at the British Red Cross Centre in Lochgilphead.

Current resources consist of 2 wheelchair accessible 14 seater minibuses with lowered entry steps.

In order to meet overheads, charges will be raised and these can be discussed with the Transport Manager at the time of enquiry.

Interloch Transport

Interloch Transport provides a door to door assisted transport service for people of ages, who through sickness, mobility problems, disability or isolation find it difficult to access Public Transport, allowing them to access services GP/Hospital/Dental, Shopping, Hairdressers, Social Events. It operates across rural Cowal & Bute.

Lismore Community Transport

Since July 2011 the voluntary organisation and Scottish registered charity has provided a transport service for elderly and mobility-impaired members of the island community on Lismore.

15 seat accessible Community Bus. Available for hire to groups and individuals in Cowal.

Mid Argyll Transport Volunteers

This is a voluntary car scheme to help elderly and disabled people unable to use local buses. Transport is provided for shopping, medical appointments and social outings in the Mid Argyll area.

North Argyll Volunteer Car Scheme

The scheme organises volunteers to use their own cars to provide transport for people who would otherwise be unable to make local journeys which are important to their health, general wellbeing and integration into the community. Covers the Community Council areas of Seil, Luing, Kilninver and Kilmelford, Glenorchy, Innishail, Taynuilt, Kilchrenan and Dalavich.
Passengers must register with the co-ordinator and are asked to make a contribution to journey costs.

Cowal Dialabus

Dialabus is a door-to-door service for the elderly and people with mobility problems.

The area served by Cowal Dialabus stretches from Ardentinny to Toward on a Wednesday and Thursday and from Strachur to Toward on a Monday.

Ross of Mull and Iona Community Transport Scheme

The scheme offers a seven passenger vehicle with full disabled access. This is available for all residents transport needs. Journeys are subject to a charge to cover fuel costs. We also have a sixteen seat LDV minibus, available for hire to local groups and individuals.
