There’s just a few days left to register to vote for people living in the Isle of Bute or Helensburgh and Lomond South council wards, where by-elections will take place on 18 March.
It’s never too early to register to vote, but the deadline for these local elections is Tuesday 2 March – so, if you want to have your say in who represents your community, it’s worth taking a few minutes to make sure you can take part.
Registering to vote is quick and easy. You can do it online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in a few minutes. If you’d rather do it by post or can’t access the internet, you can contact the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 980 0470 – they can check whether you’re already registered or can send you out a registration form if you need one.
You can also vote by post or by proxy (where you appoint someone to cast your vote on your behalf).
The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday 3March 2021. If you want to apply for a proxy vote you need to do so by 5pm on Wednesday 10 March.

The Electoral Registration Office deals with applications for postal or proxy votes as well as registration and you can apply online at the link above.
The Argyll and Bute Council by-elections are for one vacant seat each in:
- Ward 8, Isle of Bute; and
- Ward 11, Helensburgh and Lomond South.
